The Climate Reality We Face

Introduction

Kenya faces one of its most significant climate events in recent history. Forecasters warn that a strong El Niño could bring flooding, Rift Valley Fever outbreaks, crop and livestock losses to many counties. Early warning without early action is merely information — our mission is to convert forecasts into protection.

Early warning without early action is merely information. Our mission is to convert forecasts into protection, and vulnerability into resilience.

NOBRIVA is a Kenyan humanitarian platform connecting preparedness, response and recovery. Founded by Kenyan humanitarian professionals and registered in 2022, we focus on arid and semi-arid lands.

Who We Are

NOBRIVA was founded by a coalition of Kenyan humanitarian professionals to close a gap: the absence of a coordinated, community-centred platform connecting preparedness, response and long-term recovery. Our team combines humanitarian response, climate science, community development and technology, with a focus on arid and semi-arid lands.

A Kenya where every community possesses the resources, knowledge and networks to withstand climate shocks and recover with dignity.

Our Mission

To empower vulnerable communities to prepare for, respond to and recover from El Niño and other climate disasters through community-led preparedness, rapid emergency response, flexible recovery grants and sustained investment in resilience.

Governance

  • Board of Directors — strategic oversight and financial governance; meets quarterly.
  • Executive Director — leads operations and reports to the Board.
  • Programs — preparedness, response and recovery across counties.
  • Finance & Compliance — donor funds and Data Protection Act, 2019 compliance.
  • Community Advisory Council — beneficiary representatives keep our work grounded.

3R Strategy

Our 3R Framework treats disasters as a cycle needing action at every stage.

Readiness

Community early warning in local languages, pre-positioned supplies, trained volunteers.

Response

Rapid multi-purpose cash assistance, prioritising the most vulnerable.

Recovery

Rebuilding homes, schools and livelihoods — building back better.

Every dollar invested in early action saves three to seven dollars in response and recovery costs.

Communities We Serve

  • Female-headed households — facing greater barriers to assistance.
  • Children and youth — protecting nutrition and schooling.
  • Pastoralists — livestock losses destroy generational livelihoods.
  • Informal settlements — poor drainage and housing raise flood risk.
  • Persons with disabilities — targeted, accessible support.
